LITERACY BACKPACKS

The Literacy Backpack program will be starting up again at the beginning of Term Two. Prep, One and Two will trial the backpacks initially, working on a rotation basis. These groups will alternate the following weeks:
Week 1: Pre-Primary
Week 2: Grade One
Week 3: Grade Two
Week 4: Pre-Primary
Week 5: Grade One
Week 6: Grade Two
Week 7: Pre-Primary
Week 8: Grade One
Week 9: Grade Two

Please remember which week your child/children will be bringing home their backpack and make sure they take it back to school the following morning. There will be rewards for students who consistently remember to bring their backpacks back to school.

The rest of the school will trial a system of taking activities/games/work home prior to introducing the backpacks. Students who consistently show they are able to return activities/games/work sent home, and complete it, will then be given a backpack. There will be an update on how this is going in the next newsletter.

ASSPA Home Reading Scheme:
Many students are already borrowing and returning books each day which is great to see. Students need to remember that in order to borrow a book they need to purchase a $5.00 book bag. At the moment students can change their books over at 2pm in the RE room, through the Staff Room. After borrowing six books, students get to keep a book of their choice. Through ASSPA funding, new books have been purchased and I am currently looking into buying some football/fishing/basketball/car magazines to try and get more boys interested in reading.
