Sun Safe Policy

Rationale:-
The hazards of exposure to the sun’s rays are well documented. School sand school staff have a responsibility to ensure that children are educated about ways to keep themselves safe in the sun and to model sunsafe practices at work.

Being Sunsafe should be a focus in the Health Curriculum.

Practices:-
* The wearing of hats is promoted positively as an example of healthy behaviour by all staff at the school
* It is compulsory for all children from PP – Secondary to wear a hat during official school hours when they are outside the classroom.
* Children from Kindergarten will be actively encouraged to wear hats.
* Staff will wear hats if outside during the official school hours when children are in attendance.
* Sunscreen will be supplied in the staff room and in all classrooms. Parental permission will be sought before children are provided with sunscreen.
* Children in the Junior Primary area (PP-2) play under the verandahs if they don’t have a hat. No ball games. They can be given chalk.
* Children in the Senior yard area sit on the verandahs facing the basketball court if they don’t have a hat. No balls or equipment are to be used.
* If children have a hat, they must go and play.
* The school will provide school hats for $5.00.
