Reflection:

During Lent, we look for ways to make acts of self denial. These may be very specific like no lollies or abstinence from meat on Fridays. But a greater challenge, I believe, is to remain aware throughout the day that “you are a blessing from the Father to everyone you meet today”.

May He bless us all as we strive to live Christ-like lives.

Story:

Sir Walter Scott once threw a rock at a stray dog to chase it away. His throw was stronger than he meant it to be. He hit the dog breaking its leg. Instead of running away, the dog limped up to him and licked his hand. He said, “That day I truly understood the meaning of God’s love”.

Ash Wednesday Mass
It was fantastic to see many community people come out and celebrate with us. Many thanks to Miss Kazue, Mr Tristan & Miss Tracey for their work organising the mass, and thanks also to Mr Bernie and Mr PJ for the music.

Government Stimilus Package
Sacred Heart School is entitled to $850,000 from the Building Education Revolution, which is offering $12.4 billion to schools across
the nation. The school is also entitled to $75,000 from the National School Pride Grant ($1.3 billion).
The school will be refurbishing the floorings in some of the classrooms and currently in discussions with the school’s architect
about the placement of a new multi-purpose building.
Clinic Visits
Starting next Thursday 25th March Maria and Staff from the Clinic will be coming into the school to run health checks.

Attendance

Attendance has been excellent this year. It has been pleasing to see families support the school in improving educational outcomes for all our students.

Lunches
Just a reminder that Sacred Heart School still believes it is the responsibility of the parents/carers to provide a healthy meal each day. The school will provide lunch for students who have nothing to eat.

Can You Hear Me?
Language plays an important role in the personal and social development of all children. It allows them to explore, establish and maintain relationships with others. Through language, children share ideas, problem solve, exchange experiences and show consideration and respect. It is imperative that we as parents initiate conversation and encourage our children to talk often. Some simple activities to develop speaking and listening
  • Involve your child in plans – going shopping, fishing
  • Ask about familiar topics such as school
  • Provide a good listening model and avoid answering with ‘Mmm’ or ‘just a minute’

Assistant Principal Report
As we enter this period of Lent we focus on ourselves and our lives. During this time the church asks us to give alms to fast and to be penitent and prayerful.

Ash Wednesday Mass:
A big thank you to all the parents in the community for their participation in the Ash Wednesday Mass last it was a great to see a big turn out. A special thanks to the students who performed a liturgical dance, Well Done.

Pattern and Shape
Grade 3/4 students have been working on patterns in numbers. Students have been using a 100 board and finding, and covering with counters, multiples of numbers from one to ten and then looking at the pattern created.

Stewart Bulley shows his 9’s.

Kiawahni Mitchelson with her 8’s.

Kasey Councillor patterns with 7’s.

Jarman Carpio shows the 3’s

Shanni-Lea Cox looks at 5’s patterns.

AUSTRALIA

Grade 3/4 has also recently started a Society and Environment unit on Australia. Students recently completed a giant jigsaw of our wonderful nation.

Kiawahni, Mikey, Shanni-Lea, Stewart, Erin, Jarman and Kasey proudly show their finished jigsaw map of Australia.
