Kindy, Pre Primary & Year 1
The Early Years staff of Kindy, Pre-Primary and Year 1 believe that all children have the right to feel safe in a caring and nurturing environment where they can grow and learn. It is important to all staff that the social and emotional wellbeing of our students is a priority.
Each morning begins with mindfulness, followed by an Acknowledgement to Country where we thank the Nyul Nyul people for the land on which we play. We then check in with each other and share how we are feeling and join in a prayer of thanks to God.
Our morning session consists of explicit small group teaching, integrated playful learning both indoor and outdoor (depending on the weather), and independent reading and writing for some of the Year Ones. We love listening to our teachers reading books to us, especially when Miss Saya, Miss Natty and Mr Elijah retell the story in Aboriginal English.
After recess, the Kindy children go home and the Pre-Primary’s and Year 1s continue with their learning. Counting and playing many hands on maths games is always exciting in our class because we do dancing, races and use different objects and experiences to help us learn all things about maths.
We enjoy going to Music with Miss Gabrielle, Technologies with Miss Lyla, Sport & Health with Miss Carla and Science with Miss Nancye. Most afternoons are filled with Religious Education, Geography, History and Art. On a Friday we enjoy Cultural Rotations where our amazing Aboriginal Teaching Assistant’s organise a variety of experiences for us to learn about our culture.
